Fells Point Bookstore Creates "Reading Nook" for Local Kids 

When Hurricane Books owner Sarah Chen noticed neighborhood kids peering through her window but never coming inside, she decided to do something about it. "I realized books can feel intimidating when you're not sure you can afford them," Chen said. "So we created a space where cost isn't a factor."

This week, Hurricane Books unveiled a cozy corner filled with donated children's books, bean bags, and a "Take What You Need" policy. Local author Laura Lippman donated signed copies, and nearby Daily Grind provides free hot chocolate for young readers. "We've had kids in here every day since Monday," Chen said. "Yesterday, a 7-year-old spent two hours reading to her baby brother. That's what it's all about."

The Thames Street shop has already distributed over 200 books, with more donations pouring in from neighbors who love seeing literature bloom in their waterfront community.
