HeartSmiles: Building Baltimore’s Future

Sometimes the best thing to “do” is celebrate the people making Baltimore brighter. HeartSmiles, founded by West Baltimore native Joni Holifield, is transforming young lives by tackling generational poverty head-on. Through leadership training, entrepreneurship workshops, and holistic support—complete with stipends, meals, and transportation—the program empowers kids as young as eight to dream big and lead with confidence. In 2024, every high school senior in the program graduated—a perfect 100% rate—proving that hope and hard work can change a city’s future 👉 Washington Post

Recently, HeartSmiles celebrated its first college graduate while continuing to mentor hundreds of Baltimore youth.
